About Carlo Hollesch

Carlo Hollesch (Pola 1926 – Venice 1978), born to a Bohemian father and an Italian mother, completed a classical education in Venice and was a self-taught painter. He knew Filippo De Pisis, who influenced his early work, and exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1950 and 1954 and at several Rome Quadriennali. He lived in Florence in the 1950s before returning to Venice. The facades of Venetian Baroque churches are a recurring theme in his work, which in the 1970s also included screenprints and other prints.
