About Natale Filannino
Natale Filannino (Reggio Calabria 1924 – 1987) came to Florence in 1947, aged twenty-three, and completed his studies there at the Accademia di Belle Arti; he later taught painting at the city's state art school, the Liceo Artistico. From 1953 he took part in avant-garde movements, first in a realist-expressionist vein and then in classical abstraction. In 1964 he founded the group «Segno Rosso» with Vinicio Berti and others, in 1970 he was among the founders of the art studio «Il Moro», and in 1972 he signed the manifesto «Nascita di una morfologia costruttiva». He held about sixty solo exhibitions in Italy and showed in Moscow, Prague, Budapest and Vienna; in 1977, invited by the Yugoslav government, he presented a survey exhibition in Dubrovnik. In 1999 the Centro d'Arte Modigliani in Scandicci devoted a large retrospective to him.
